what's that smell?
me no likey
I absolutely adore the regular Smarty Dish tabs, so I thought that when all the stores in my area stopped carrying them and switched to the Plus instead that it would be a good thing. I mean “plus” is a good thing, right? No way! White spots all over my dishes and nothing (I mean NOTHING) got clean. I had to rewash everything. I came here to find out if my tabs were gone for good. There is still a listing for them, so I can only hope that they will continue making them even if no one in my area still carries them.
Works very well in hard water. Leaves no residue. No need to use more than one packet. If a packet breaks, I just pour the powder in dishwasher.
Thick White Film On Plastic
I love Smarty Dish detergent. I do NOT like the new Plus version. My husband and I were both very impressed with how it got the dishes clean (it doesn’t fit in the dispenser and just left a ton of it in the dispenser when we wedged it in…. I just threw it in the bottom of the washer). It did the best job EVER of getting most of the dishes clean.
However, we have a nasty film over all of the Plastic we put through the dishwasher. It really does seem to rinse clean the glass, etc….it is just the plastic. Very thick, white film, I can literally run a finger through it, spell my name in it…gross. Not something I want on my kids sippy cups or anything we are eating off of. We won’t be buying this again. Hoping maybe it can be reformulated because the scrub action really does seem great….
Best Green Dish Soap
This was my forth try at Eco dishwasher detergent. It’s the only one to leave my dishes without a hard water film. They may even be better then the Cascade packets I usually use. Thanks for getting it right!
Smarty Dish Plus Has Its Pluses
While I’m more irate that the site dumped my entire review because I hadn’t logged in and so I have to write a different one, I care enough about smarty dish plus and method to do it all over again.
I did not think it was possible to get my dishes cleaner than with smarty dish. I was wrong: they now come out sparkly and very clean. Plus, the lemon mint smell clinging to them is quite pleasing. [Note, though, that I do use a hot water wash (mainly 'cause I let dishes stay in the dishwasher 'til it's full before I wash - and I usually don't rinse them on a daily basis as is suggested). And if I bring something home from the thrift shop, it gets a sani rinse on top of it all.]
Nonetheless, two things, one quite minor, stopped me from giving smarty dish plus five stars: (1) I miss my grapefruit scent and, most importantly, (2) as per Ann Daley, I’m having the same problem getting the tabs fit in my dispenser. Luckily, however, I have (thus far) only broken one tab while overly enthusiastically smooshing it on my counter (rather than in my hands). And, like Ann says, it’s only a minor inconvenience. I’ll add that for such clean and wonderful dishes.
We have been using Smarty Dish for awhile and we really liked it. I figured that Plus would be even better. Not so. Our dishes now have tiny chunks of stuff sticking to them after EVERY wash. I have to rewash multiple dishes – especially glasses, after each load. Boo. Can’t wait until we finish the package. We won’t be using this particular product again.
First bad Method product ever!
I have loved Smarty Dish for years and when I saw Plus I thought it could only get better. Not so much… First, the fatter packaging is just a bit too big for my dispenser and as stated previously has to be flattened to fit and allow the door to close. Second, my dishwasher started smelling like sour milk and my normally shiny glasses and plastic cups were covered in a funky film. I had the maintenance man come out and clean all the filters, pipes and disposal as I thought some food had gotten trapped somewhere and was causing the stench. But once I ran a regular dishwashing cycle with a plus pack again I was back to awful smell and filmy glasses.
I then bought the cheapest dish washing det I could get, close to home (Method requires a trip to Target) and some rinse agent for the little dispenser… I have never used that previously. Ran one cycle and have gleaming dishes and glasses with no odor, just a clean smell!
Will NOT use Plus any longer and go back to Smarty Dish from now on.
Method, you have made me happy in so many ways with ALL your products, this is the first “failure” but I am still a solid and loyal customer!
Not for us
We have to stick to Smarty Dish rather than Smarty Dish Plus. We just bought the Plus recently. Each time we used the latter, our dishwasher overflowed with suds. When we called the repairman, thinking we had a malfunction with the machine, he said it might be the dish soap we’re using. So we went back to the regular Smarty Dish and haven’t had a problem since. No repair costs, no new machine to buy, and still using Method. That’s a win, even though this product is not for us.
Nice, but . . .
I really like this detergent. It works as well or better than the original tablets I’ve loved and used for years. However, the new, fatter packs don’t fit in my dishwasher dispenser! I can’t close the dispenser door without breaking and flattening the pack. Other than this minor inconvenience, it’s a great product.
